You have probably driven past the Girdle Ridge gate a hundred times, filed away "we should go this year," and defaulted to the same two ticketed Saturdays your neighbors mention at pickup. That is the version of Katonah summer most residents actually experience, and it is the one worth quietly upgrading.
Here is the thesis: the best programming in this village between now and August is free, midweek, or before noon. The marquee Venetian Theater concerts get the press, but the spine of the season is a set of quieter dates that residents can walk into without a plan. If you only know the ticketed calendar, you are missing the half of Caramoor that was designed for people who live nearby.
What Actually Runs Between Now and August 2
The 2026 season is Caramoor's 81st. It runs June 20 through August 2, 2026, across the 81-acre historic estate at 149 Girdle Ridge Road, and the schedule spans more than 40 events across five venues, from the Venetian Theater to the intimate Music Room. That number matters because it means most nights on the calendar are not the gala nights.
The free and low-cost spine, in date order:
- Fri, July 24, 11:00 am — Pollinator Garden Tour, Sunken Garden. The Sunken Garden teems with butterflies and other pollinators when its native plants are in peak summer bloom; the garden was planted intentionally with local flora to sustain the native species that call the region home.
- Sat, July 11 & 18, and Sat, Aug 1 — Music and Meditation in the Garden. A series of three Saturday morning gatherings for deep listening in the Sunken Garden, each beginning with a short meditation led by Jennifer Llewellyn of Katonah's Majestic Hudson. The lineups: July 11 features flutist Adam W. Sadberry and bassoonist Alexander Davis; July 18 pairs guitarist Kyle Sanna with violinist Dana Lyn; August 1 brings harpist Emily Levin and violinist Julia Choi.
- Sun, July 19 — World premiere, "The Only Way is Through," Sunken Garden. A free world premiere of composer Christopher Cerrone's work performed by Sandbox Percussion and the Young People's Chorus of New York City, staged as an immersive recital in the Sunken Garden where audience members move freely through the space as the music is constructed in real time.
- All season — Sonic Innovations. Caramoor's seasonal exhibition of sound art, running June through October, uses the historic grounds as the site for multiple works and grew out of the 2014 In the Garden of Sonic Delights commissioning initiative. The estate is open daily from 10:00am to 4:00pm for free exploration.
None of this requires a plus-one, a picnic hamper, or a $95 ticket. It requires knowing the dates.
The Ticketed Nights Worth Actually Planning Around
If you are going to buy tickets, the schedule below is where the season's weight sits. This is not a complete list. It is the shortlist a resident should treat like restaurant reservations, meaning book now or don't bother.

Family-friendly programming is woven throughout the season, and the return of "Dancing at Dusk" on July 8, 15, and 22 invites families and younger audiences to engage with music through interactive, early-evening performances featuring Peter and the Wolf, Latin music and storytelling, and a Western-themed evening, respectively.
The Village, Ranked by Walking Distance from the Train
The other under-used move is treating Katonah Avenue like the pre- or post-concert restaurant row it functionally is. Everything below is a short stroll from Katonah Station.
- The Whitlock, 17 Katonah Ave. Frequently packed and located just across the street from the train station, with a chef's French/Mediterranean menu; smaller intimate seating, al fresco dining in warm months, and reservations recommended for parties of six or more.
- Blue Dolphin Ristorante. In the heart of the village, serving Capri and Amalfi Coast cuisine for close to 40 years, with side-of-the-building outdoor seating in warm months. Closed Sundays.
- Peppino's Ristorante. Family-owned for more than 30 years, in the old Katonah train station, open seven days a week with strong outdoor seating.
- Wogies Bar & Grill. A newer arrival with sister restaurants in the West Village and the Financial District, making nearly everything from scratch, including its own bread.
- Farmhouse Tavern. The former Katonah Woods, reopened as Farmhouse Tavern by restauranteur Arber Muriqi, doing classic American fare and craft beer, wine and cocktails for brunch, lunch, and dinner.
- Katonah Reading Room. A cafe-and-reading experience serving coffees, baked goods, ice cream, gifts, and art supplies.
- Tengda Asian Bistro. Rated excellent by Zagat every year since 2006, with some of the best Asian cuisine in the area.
A practical routing note: if you have Venetian Theater tickets, a 5:30 seating at any of the above puts you in the Caramoor lot with time to walk the grounds before the downbeat. Caramoor is a 3.5-mile drive from the Katonah station.
The Sunday Habit Most People Miss
Muscoot Farm is the third leg of a Katonah summer, and it is the one residents most reliably forget until they have out-of-town guests. Originally a "Gentleman's Farm" founded by Ferdinand T. Hopkins in 1880 and operated as a dairy farm until Westchester County acquired the property in the late 1960s, it is now a county park that preserves and interprets its agrarian past. It sits at 51 Rt 100, open every day of the week, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The reason to build it into a weekly rhythm rather than an annual visit: the Muscoot Farmer's Market runs Sundays from May through November, which is a longer window than any private farmers market in the county keeps. If you have not been since spring, the summer version is a different market, with different growers and different produce.
For runners with school-age kids, the fall race is worth putting on the calendar now. Fall Run the Farm is a 5-mile trail race at Muscoot on October 25, 2026, with a Kids Race #1 for ages 7 to 12 at 8:30 a.m. and a Kids Race #2 for ages 6 and under at 8:45 a.m.
The Take
The mistake is treating Caramoor as a once-a-summer event and Katonah Avenue as a Friday-night decision. The residents who get the most out of July here are the ones who put the free Sunken Garden dates in their calendar the same week they buy their one ticketed concert, then anchor Sunday morning at Muscoot. The village rewards a weekly cadence, not an annual one.
